  • National BioDiesel Day
  • National Day Against Bullying And Violence
  • Supreme Sacrifice Day
  • 1190: Crusaders killed 57 Jews in Bury St Edmunds, England
  • 1241: Kraków was ravaged by Mongols
  • 1314: Jacques de Molay, 23rd and last Knights Templar Grand Master, was burned at the stake by France’s King Philip IV
  • 1532: The English Parliament banned payments by the English church to Rome
  • 1766: Great Britain repealed the Stamp Act, which had caused outrage and helped lead to the American Revolution
  • 1834: Six farm labourers from Tolpuddle, Dorset, England were sentenced to Australia for forming a trade union
  • 1903: Following through on attacks on Catholic institutions, the French Government dissolved Catholic religious orders
  • 1922: British magistrates in India sentenced Mahatma Gandhi to 6 years imprisonment for disobedience
  • 1925: An outbreak of at least 8 tornadoes swept Missouri, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee killing 689 people
  • 1938: New York became the first state to require serological blood tests of pregnant women
  • 1938: President Cardena of Mexico nationalized US and British oil companies
  • 1953: A 7.5 earthquake struck Yenice–Gönen in Western Turkey, killing 1070 people
  • 1962: The Algerian War ended after 7 and a half years and the deaths of 250,000 people
  • 1968: The US Congress repealed the requirement for a gold reserve
  • 1970: A two-week US postal strike against the government began, largest wildcat strike in US history
  • 1971: 200 people died in a landslide into Lake Yanahuani, Chungar, Peru
  • 1977: The US restricted American citizens from visiting Cuba, Vietnam, North Korea, and Cambodia
  • 1990: The Conservatives defeated the Communists in the first free elections in East Germany
  • 1994: South Africa’s Goldstone Committee revealed the existence of a secret police force
  • 2003: British Sign Language was recognised as an official British language
  • 2005: Terri Schiavo’s feeding tube was removed at the request of her husband
  • 2014: The US closed the Syrian embassy in Washington DC and expelled all Syrian diplomats
  • 2018: Bushfires in Tathra, New South Wales, Australia, destroyed over 70 buildings
  • 2019: “Historic to catastrophic flooding” was faced by Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and South Dakota
  • 2020: US President Donald Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed to close the US-Canada border, the world’s longest, to non-essential travel to curb COVID-19
  • 2021: The US House Judiciary Committee hearings on the rise of violence and discrimination against Asian-Americans with reports saying 3,800 hate incidents were recorded over the last 12 months
