Many days there are far too many anniversaries, holidays, and observances to post about individually on social media, so in an effort to have more of them available, LLPHP is going to experiment with posting them daily here. - 1814: Murat issued the Rimini Declaration which would later inspire Italian Unification
- 1856: Russia signed the Treaty of Paris, ending the Crimean War
- 1870: The 15th Amendment to the US constitution was adopted, guaranteeing the right to vote regardless of race
- 1900: The Dutch Second Chamber accepted legislation mandating compulsory education
- 1919: Gandhi announced resistance against the Rowlatt Act
- 1942: The SS murdered 200 inmates of Trawniki concentration camp
- 1945: 289 anti-fascists were murdered by Nazis in Rombergpark Dortmund
- 1949: A riot broke out in Austurvöllur square in Reykjavík, in protest of Iceland joining NATO
- 1959: The Dalai Lama fled China and was granted political asylum in India
- 1969: Loyalists bombed water and electricity installations in Northern Ireland in hopes the attacks would be blamed on the IRA and elements of the civil rights movement, which was demanding an end to discrimination against Catholics
- 1972: Northern Ireland’s Government and Parliament were dissolved by the British Government and ‘direct rule’ from Westminster was introduced
- 2006: The UK Terrorism Act of 2006 became law
- 2013: North Korea declared it is at a state of war with South Korea
- 2017: North Carolina repealed its controversial bathroom law that restricted transgender bathroom use
- 2017: Venezuela’s Supreme Court assumed the legislative powers of the National Assembly, which opponents called a coup
- 2018: Palestinians began a “Great March of Return”: 6 weeks of protests on the Gaza Strip demanding Palestinian refugees be allowed to return to Israel. On the first day, 19 Palestinians were killed, and 1,416 people were injured
- 2020: Moscow, Russia began a city-wide lockdown due to COVID-19 with only 4 hours notice
- 2020: Three out of four Americans were under “stay at home” orders due to COVID-19 as states of Virginia, Maryland, Arizona, and Florida implemented lockdowns
