• Celebrate Your Unique Talent Day
• 1655: English Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell banned Anglicans
• 1775: The American Continental Congress approved a resolution barring blacks from the Continental Army
• 1832: South Carolina passed an Ordinance of Nullification, declaring the tariffs of 1828 and 1832 unconstitutional and unenforceable, precipitating the Nullification Crisis which presaged the American Civil War
• 1869: The American Woman’s Suffrage Association formed in Cleveland
• 1896: The first US absentee voting law was enacted by Vermont
• 1918: Béla Can formed the Hungarian Communist Party
• 1922: The Italian Parliament gave Benito Mussolini dictatorial powers “for 1 year”
• 1941: “Life Certificates” were issued to some Jews in Vilna, and the rest were exterminated
• 1947: The US House of Representatives Committee on Un-American Activities found the “Hollywood 10” in contempt because of their refusal to reveal whether they were Communists
• 1966: 400 people died of respiratory failure and heart attacks in New York City’s smog on the smoggiest day in the city’s history
• 2018: Taiwanese voters voted against referendums to legalise same-sex marriage
• 2019: Data leaked from Chinese high-security Muslim Uighur security camps, housing 1 million people, showed systematic brainwashing in the western Xinjiang region
• 2019: Hong Kong pro-democracy candidates overwhelmingly won district council elections in a strong rebuke to Hong Kong’s leaders
