  • 1861: The State of West Virginia was created as a result of a dispute over slavery with Virginia
  • 1898: A snow and ice storm hit that would kill 455 people over the next two days across various states
  • 1940: Nazi Germany began walling off the Jewish Ghetto in Warsaw
  • 1941: France proclaimed an independent Lebanon
  • 1984: US and Iraq re-established diplomatic relations
  • 2019: A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Albania killing at least 51 people and injuring hundreds more
