- 1750: Slaves rose up on the island of Curacao
- 1933: The Iraqi Government slaughtered over 3,000 Assyrians in the village of Sumail
- 1941: 551 Jews were shot and killed in Romania’s Kishnev ghetto
- 1957: The US Congress passed the Civil Rights Act of 1957
- 1960: Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) gained independence from France
- 1960: Students staged kneel-in demonstrations in Atlanta, Georgia churches
- 1966: Lansing, Michigan experienced a race riot
- 1988: Rioting occurred in New York City’s Tompkins Square Park
- 1988: Angola, Cuba, and South Africa allegedly signed a cease fire treaty
- 1993: Tropical storm Brett ravaged Venezuela, killing 118 people
- 2012: Heavy rain forced 20,000 people to flee their homes in Manila, Philippines
- 2012: 200,000 people were evacuated from Shanghai, China in anticipation of Typhoon Haikui
