- 1638: The first earthquake was recorded in US, at Plymouth, Massachusetts
- 1796: The last of Great Britain’s troops withdrew from the USA
- 1911: The first US group insurance policy was written in Passaic, New Jersey
- 1940: Nazi occupiers kicked Jews out of the Dutch air guard
- 1941: Germany banned all Catholic publications
- 1948: Israel and Arabs agreed to a cease fire
- 1949: The British government granted Cyrenaica (East-Libya) independence
- 1965: A coal mine explosion in Fukuoka, Japan killed 236 people
- 1966: 2,400 people attended the White House Conference on Civil Rights
