  • 1829: The Peace of Adrianopel ended the Russian-Turkish war
  • 1944: A Great Atlantic hurricane hit New England causing the deaths of 300-400 people along the US East Coast
  • 1954: Hurricane Edna hit Massachusetts, New York City, and the Northeastern US causing approximately $50 million damage
  • 1972: West Germany and Poland established diplomatic relations
  • 2018: Hurricane Florence made landfall near Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, as a category 1 hurricane
  • 2020: WHO reported the largest-ever one-day COVID-19 case rise of 307,930, with a daily death toll of 5,500 and the overall death total reaching 917,417
